OA Switchboard Launches Books Solution with First Three Publishers Going Live
October 14, 2025
Cambridge University Press, IntechOpen and University of Michigan Press to send standardized notifications upon book and chapter publication to targeted research funders and institutions
OA Switchboard, which supports all business models, policies, and types of scholarly output, is announcing the launch of its books solution, which is now operational. Following the 2023–2024 pilot for OA Books, the solution is going live in October 2025 with the first three publishers: Cambridge University Press, IntechOpen, and University of Michigan Press.
The books solution marks an important step toward a comprehensive solution designed to improve workflows, increase the visibility of publications, support book policies, and enable integration with the wider research and publishing ecosystem. It covers both open access and non-open access books, ensuring that all types of scholarly books can benefit from a standardized and transparent communication framework.
As an independent intermediary, OA Switchboard provides a trusted environment for the exchange of publication metadata, simplifying communication between publishers, funders, and institutions while reducing transactional costs for all parties.
Through their ONIX feeds, the three publishers will now automatically connect with OA Switchboard and notify relevant research funders and institutions when a book or chapter authored by their grantees or researchers is published.
For research funders and institutions, OA Switchboard provides real-time, structured metadata alerts on book and chapter publications linked to their organizations. This helps them stay informed, track publication output without manual searching, and enrich internal systems with standardized metadata. The solution reduces data entry workloads and strengthens analytics, visualization, and reporting through automated data exchange.
